At the start of each academic year, the Booth UC community gathers for Opening Convocation to celebrate new beginnings and officially open the school year at Booth UC.
This year, Member of Parliament Dr. Robert-Falcon Ouellette brought greetings to the staff, faculty, students and friends present.
“I’d like to remind you that things are not always simple. You are doing great work here,” he stated. “Working with young people can be a very difficult thing… and an inspiring thing!” He also thanked Booth UC’s Chancellor, Commissioner Susan McMillan for her leadership, and for her work with communities that are in need of what Booth UC has to offer.
This was, in fact, the last official event for Commissioner McMillan as Chancellor of Booth UC. She delivered an encouraging and inspiring Convocation Address.
“Apply yourselves to your studies, don’t take lightly the investment that is being made in you and your future…There’s nothing wrong with enjoying yourself while you are here. Enjoy your new friends, but remember, what you apply yourself to most is what you will learn best,” she concluded.
To close the Convocation service, the Board of Trustees presented Commissioner McMillan with a gift – a Booth UC sweater – to thank her for serving as Chancellor for the last five years. A delicious reception followed in Booth Bistro, where attendees had the chance to chat, mingle and enjoy good food and conversation.
