Overview

We are interested in knowing about you so we can bring together learners from many communities. It is our hope that our learning community will be a reflection of the world we are trying to create together. This program invests in relationships and the value of relationship-building in community capacity development.

The applications committee will consider multiple factors in reviewing applications, including lived experience and commitment to participate.

Application Questions

  1. Communities: We are interested in knowing about the communities you are a part of. We want to bring together learners from many different physical locations, identities, and experiences. Please tell us about the communities you belong to. Which communities do you currently serve or intend to serve?
  2. Skills: What are some of the skills you bring to your current work in community? What skills are you hoping to gain by participating in this program?
  3. Experiences: Where are you at right now in your experience with community work? Why is now a good time for you to take this program? Tell us about the experiences that have drawn you to this program.
  4. People: Which people have shaped your understanding of the world? E.g. people you know, teachers, writers, artists, scientists, activists, philosophers, community members. Tell us about a few of these influences.
  5. Education: This course is an exploration of learning and unlearning and we welcome all kinds of learners. Please tell us about your past experience with informal and formal education. (For example, this may include formal education such as diplomas or degrees, or informal learning in community from mentors, Elders, and peers.)
  6. Commitment: Are you available to commit to a minimum of six hours a week online to attend this certificate program? Classes will be held virtually on Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Central Time from October 2022 to March 2023. Are you also available to commit to a minimum of two hours of individual learning/processing time?
  7. Barriers: We would like to work with you to eliminate or minimize barriers to participation. If there is a way we can help, please let us know. For example, this may include support with a computer, stable Wi-Fi, language translation, ASL interpretation, eldercare support, childcare, food, weekly summaries, etc.
