On behalf of the Booth University College Board of Trustees, BGen (Ret’d) Linda Colwell is pleased to announce that Lieutenant-Colonel (Dr.) Susan van Duinen has accepted the appointment of Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of Booth University College with effect 14 June 2021. She will replace our current Interim President, Dr. Donald Burke, who after seeing the University College through a very challenging year, has chosen to return to his position as Professor of Biblical Studies and his first academic love, teaching. We wish to thank Dr. Burke for his amazing contribution to the life and breath of Booth University College over the year.
Lt-Colonel (Dr.) van Duinen comes to her new position with vast leadership and education experience. As Dean of the School for Continuing Studies at Booth University College from 2014-2017, she successfully used project and change management principles to bring about the formation of a solid structure for the school, and in so doing, helping to fulfil Booth UC’s mission of providing “Education for a Better World.” Since 2017, she has continued to teach cadets at the College for Officer Training and certificate courses in chaplaincy, management and leadership as part of the Booth UC offering. She has a Doctor of Ministry (Counselling) from Providence University College and Seminary in Winnipeg and a Master of Divinity from Tyndale University in Toronto. She is a Certified Professional Leadership Coach, has extensive experience as a presenter at national and international conferences and is a sought-after Executive Leadership and Life Coach consultant.
Prior to her retirement from officership, Lt-Colonel van Duinen served as Divisional Commander in The Salvation Army’s former Manitoba and North West Division, the British Columbia Division and the former Ontario Central-East Division. Susan and her late husband, Dirk, were commissioned in 1978 and enjoyed various appointments over their 36 years of ministry in Canada, Germany and the former Czechoslovakia.
While the search for our sixth President and Vice Chancellor has been slowed by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Board of Trustees remains confident that God has a plan for Booth University College. Under that plan, the institution will continue to grow and mature as a Christian centre of learning focused on providing only the best in higher education and spiritual development. Your prayerful support is invited as the Search Committee continues its work.
Interested individuals should provide a letter outlining their qualifications for the position and a complete curriculum vita. The names and contact data for referees will be required once initial screening is complete. Applications and nominations may be submitted electronically to the Chair of the Search Committee, Lieutenant-Colonel Fred Waters, at Presidential_Search@BoothUC.ca
