Dr. Donald Burke Named Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of Booth University College

Booth University College has announced that Dr. Donald E. Burke has been appointed Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the University College with effect 10 June 2020.

Dr. Burke will replace outgoing President Dr. Marjory Kerr, who leaves Booth UC to take up new responsibilities as President and Vice-Chancellor of Tyndale University.

For most of the past 38 years, Dr. Burke has served as a Professor of Biblical Studies and is widely acknowledged as a biblical scholar whose studies and teaching have focused on the Old Testament. His broad theological interests, also, include the New Testament, church history, Wesleyan studies, and theology. As Booth’s fourth President, he led the institution through some of the most formative years of its evolution from a Bible College to a degree-granting institution. Indeed, it was under his tenure as President and Vice-Chancellor that Booth UC developed and truly began to fulfill its commitment to Education for a Better World.

The Chair of the Board of Trustees, Linda Colwell, notes, “When the COVID-19 crisis interrupted our search for Booth’s sixth President and Vice-Chancellor, we realized we would need to fill the gap in presidential appointments. Dr. Burke brings the academic and leadership credibility which, combined with his knowledge of the institution, will enable us to successfully navigate what could be Booth’s most challenging year to date.”

Speaking of the challenges ahead, Dr. Burke noted, “The decision to move away from teaching to fill the role of Interim President was difficult. However, after all these years, when the institution has needs, I am compelled to do whatever I can to fill them.”

Booth UC continues an active search for its sixth President and Vice-Chancellor. Interested individuals should provide a letter outlining their qualifications for the position and a complete curriculum vita. The names and contact data for referees will be required once initial screening is complete. Applications and nominations may be submitted electronically to the Chair of the Search Committee, Kim Wilson, at Presidential_Search@BoothUC.ca
