December 31, 2020, brought with it some significant transition: the end of a rather chaotic year, the hope of the coming new year; endings, beginnings.
In the life of Booth University College, December 31 brought a rather substantive change: after over two decades instructing and mentoring students, Dr. Roy Jeal retires from active teaching. Dr. Jeal will maintain an ongoing relationship with Booth UC, having been awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus as a testament to his continued excellence; however, his absence on campus will be felt by both students and colleagues.
On a personal note, Dr. Jeal has been, since I joined the faculty in 2007, the benchmark for professionalism: his teaching, his research, his mentorship of junior faculty (of which I proudly identify). Dr. Jeal’s support of his students, his passion for education and “the life of the mind” has been an example for all of us.
