Introducing Lauryn Westhaver, Social Work Student and Scholarship Recipient

At Booth University College, we strive to make a high-quality education as affordable as possible through programs that recognize and reward students. We asked a few of our scholarship recipients, including Lauryn Westhaver, what this meant for them.

Why did you choose Booth UC?

When I graduated from high school, I had very little idea of what I wanted to do next besides learn how to help people and be part of movements that were working towards creating a more equitable world for those around me. Booth UC’s “Education for a Better World” slogan, inspired me to attend and learn more about how I can help those around me in loving, helpful, and effective ways!

How does the scholarship/award you received impact your life and/or your studies?

Receiving this scholarship has positively benefited my life as it has helped make education more affordable, helped me feel more inspired to work hard as a student, and has encouraged me in my schooling. As a university student, I often feel like no one cares about the hours of work I pour into my schooling, but this scholarship reminded me that people care about what I am doing and want to support students in pursuing their education!

How do you plan on using your “Education for a Better World”?

I plan on using my education for a better world by entering jobs and volunteer positions and using the knowledge I have gained here at Booth UC to empathize respect, and love those around me. I am already finding that the knowledge and skills I have gained here at Booth UC have helped me to connect people to resources, get involved more in my community, and given me confidence that I truly can be a part of changing our world!
