At Booth University College, we strive to make a high-quality education as affordable as possible through programs that recognize and reward students. We asked a few of our scholarship recipients, including Mayah Ferguson, what this meant for them.
Why did you choose Booth UC?

I chose Booth UC because my dad attended when he first got out of high school. I never had any particular university or college in mind, but I knew I wanted to go to Canada to study. My dad told me about Booth UC and how he thought I would like it. I also chose it because it is a smaller university and I have never really liked large crowds! I looked at the courses Booth UC offered and decided that I wanted to study behavioural sciences. That is when Booth UC became my number one choice.
How does the scholarship you received impact your life and/or your studies?
The scholarship I received really does impact my life and studies because without it I would not have been able to attend Booth UC. Receiving this scholarship has reduced the financial burden on my family, given me peace of mind, and allowed me to continue to pursue my educational dreams. The scholarship will also help me achieve my career goals in my planned timeline by reducing my stress over the lack of money and giving me the opportunity to focus on a well-rounded college experience.
How do you plan on using your “Education for a Better World”?
I plan on using my Education for a Better World to help children in my country. I hope to use innovative methods to assist students with developmental disabilities to achieve attainable goals in their educational pursuits. In The Bahamas, many disabled children struggle through an impeded education due to a lack of emphasis, funding, and availability of qualified specialists. I hope to work with them, become an advocate for them, and help them succeed in school since there is little attention given to them in my society.
