Let’s Talk About…Orange Shirt Day

Each year, the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (also known as Orange Shirt Day) is observed on September 30th. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

To honour and reflect on this important day, The Salvation Army is hosting a free virtual session on September 29th with presenters Major Shari Russell, Territorial Indigenous Ministries Consultant, and Captain Crystal Porter, Associate Territorial Indigenous Ministries Consultant. You are invited to join the session at 12:00 pm (CST).

The presenters will talk about the historical abuse that happened in residential schools, which were run primarily through Christian Churches. They will also discuss the intergenerational and systemic injustices facing Indigenous communities and how we can all continue to engage with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

Please register for this free event and join the conversation on September 29 and beyond.
