Meet Cody Russell, a Booth UC Scholarship Recipient

At Booth University College, we strive to make a high-quality education as affordable as possible through programs that recognize and reward students. We asked a few of our scholarship recipients, including Cody Russell who received the John and Lorraine Gerard Scholarship and a Residence Scholarship, about what this meant for them.

Why did you choose Booth UC?

I chose Booth UC because it felt like home as soon as I entered the doors. The friendliness of the staff, professors, and students made a difference. I was both encouraged and inspired to start an education at this school. I also choose Booth UC because of the strong core values this institution holds. I love the Salvation Army, and knowing that I can live out my salvation in Christ freely in an educational environment is encouraging. In addition, this school is very inclusive, supportive, and always looks for students to excel! Which is very promising. I would recommend Booth UC to any student who wishes to study in a safe, accessible environment.

How does the scholarship/award you received impact your life and/or your studies?

The scholarships mean everything to me. School can be costly, and lots of students all over the world stress about paying for school. Booth UC made it very easy for me, whether it’s school fees, textbooks, or even paying for food and personal items. My scholarships helped me pay all my school fees without using government money. Instead, I was able to use my own money to pay for my education. Not only does that make me feel good about myself, but it also allows me to focus more on my studies without the need to worry about money.

How do you plan on using your “Education for a Better World”?

I love our school’s slogan! I plan on using my Booth UC education to become a Salvation Army Officer. My goal is to have an impact on people’s lives, to meet human needs and be a transforming influence in their lives, to meet people right where they are so they know they aren’t alone in this world. With my Booth UC education, I will present the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that’s clear, accurate, full of meaning, respectful, and hopefully life-changing.
