“One Man – Such Influence!” A Tribute to Lloyd B. Hetherington

Lieutenant Colonel Doctor Lloyd B. Hetherington passed away peacefully at The Village of Winston Park, Guelph, ON, on Friday, February 11th, 2022 in his 87th year.

Lloyd served with his wife, the late Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Hetherington, as a Salvation Army Officer in Zambia and Canada for over 50 years. He was also President of Booth University College (then William and Catherine Booth College) from 1993-1999. At the end of their Bible College term, Lloyd and Margaret moved to the Toronto Training College where Lloyd served as the Director of Personnel and Assistant Principal until their retirement in July of 2000.

Lloyd, a proud father and grandfather, was passionate about education. He believed that no matter your age, there is always something to offer and to learn; he inspired others, including many Booth UC alumni, to find wisdom in their pursuit of education.

He was also a very positive and optimistic person, even during COVID times as documented by the CBC. A lifelong learner himself, he took up podcasting during the pandemic and co-hosted Stories from the Green Bench.

From our current President, Lieut. Colonel Susan van Duinen: “Lieut. Colonel Hetherington left his mark on my life as he shared from his heart the most important things in life which he himself discovered while on the mission field. They remain a part of me. One man – such influence!”
