Opening Convocation 2018 Highlights

September 11, 2018

The word convocation comes from the root words con and vocare meaning “to call together.” This past Friday, September 7, the Booth UC community was called together for our Opening Convocation celebrating the beginning of the academic year.

Students, staff, faculty, Salvationists and guests walked into Hetherington Chapel to the sound of music filling the room. The air was filled with energy and excitement, as the fall approaches, and we were reminded of our Mission of Christian faith, rigorous scholarship and passion for service.

Guest speaker (Dr.) Mark Wagner shared three Christian commitments in Higher Education:

  1. Be diligent in your studies
  2. Be courageous in your commitment
  3. Be clear on your mission

As we left the service with these words, we were rejuvenated and ready to take on what lies ahead.

A light lunch awaited us in the Bistro where we were once again called together in conversation, reflection and new beginnings.
