Mike was born and raised in Winnipeg, and he enjoys going home to visit family and friends.

Mike has been involved in full-time ministry in the church since 1990. In 1997, Mike and his wife Karen were ordained as Salvation Army officers and have had appointments in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; St. Albert, Alberta; Niagara Falls, Ontario; Thunder Bay, Ontario; Orangeville, Ontario; and Burlington, Ontario.

Since 2001, Mike’s ministry has centered on church planting and church revitalization, and his expertise in these fields has been utilized in various coaching and teaching opportunities in and out of The Salvation Army.

Mike’s academic studies have earned him a BA (Biblical Studies) from Booth University College, MA (Christian Ministries) from McMaster Divinity School, and a PhD (Practical Theology) from the University of Pretoria.

Mike and Karen were married in 1987 and have three children and two sons-in-laws: Becky (Peter), Joel, and Jessica (Phil). They have also been blessed with four amazing grandchildren: Jedda, Hadley, Rhett, and Rhylo. Mike finds himself playing with ponies, doll houses, and cars on most weekends and he would have it no other way.
