Dr. Dave E. Lewycky

BRE, MDiv, ThM, PhD

Sessional Instructor

Dr. Lewycky received a Bachelor of Religious Education from Winnipeg Bible College and School of Theology (now Providence University College and Theological Seminary) and both a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Grace Theological Seminary (Winona Lake, Indiana). He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Theology from Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in 1986. His doctoral dissertation, “Paul’s Turning from the Jews to the Gentiles in Luke-Acts,” addressed social, economic, and theological aspects of the Pauline mission to the gentiles. That in turn set a pattern of sorts for Dr. Lewycky’s interpretation of salvation history and mission.

Dr. Lewycky has been a full member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America since 1986 (the Marquette connection) and a member of the Society for Post-supersessionist Theology since 2020 (of particular relevance in the study of biblical theology, history of Judaism and Christianity, Christian mission, and major world religions).

After serving as pastor of the New Salem Church of the Brethren (Milford, Indiana) during seminary studies, Dr. Lewycky served as assistant professor and chair of the Department of Biblical Languages at Winnipeg Bible College from 1972-81. Then, while pastor of the Maranatha Evangelical Free Church (Winnipeg) from 1981-2005, he taught at Providence University College and Theological Seminary as adjunct assistant professor and adjunct faculty, teaching both on and off-campus courses in various sessions until 1990.

Dr. Lewycky has served at Booth University College for 30 years. From 1993-1998, he was an adjunct instructor and extension services reader/tutor, and he has been a sessional instructor since 2000. For several years, he regularly taught REL100 Introduction to Christianity, and he has also taught REL200 Biblical Foundations (Old Testament), REL302 The Pentateuch, and REL303 Hebrew Bible Prophets.

Especially since retiring sometime between 2005 and 2013, Dave has enjoyed a variety of extracurricular pursuits such as accounting/bookkeeping, biking, walking, gardening, amateur photography, VBS and Sunday School teaching, TESL and other language hobbies, keeping up with five granddaughters, and trying to be a good neighbour.
