Students are valued participants in the University College’s life and direction. Student Member positions have been reserved within two of Booth University College’s primary governing bodies. Please note the descriptions and criteria for both positions below and consider whether you are ready to serve Booth UC in this important function.

Student Member Positions on Booth UC Governing Councils

Student Member of the Booth UC Senate

The Senate is responsible for the academic policies of Booth University College. It makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees about changes to programs, curriculum, courses and degrees. It also determines the academic standards for admission to the University College. The student member of the Senate position is a one-year term. It's voted by members of the Student Council, recommended by the Dean of Students and approved by the Booth UC President, who is also Chair of the Senate.

Eligibility criteria for the Student Member of the Senate are:

  1. Current enrolment at Booth UC’s Winnipeg campus.
  2. Maintain a minimum course load of 9 credit hours per semester.
  3. Agreement with and support of the Mission and ethos of Booth UC.
  4. Available for Senate meetings from late August to May.

Student Member of the Booth UC Board of Trustees

The Booth UC Board of Trustees is appointed by the Governing Council of The Salvation Army in Canada. It acts as an independent body, responsible for the governance of the university college. This position is a one-year term. It's voted by members of the Student Council and recommended by the Dean of Students to the Booth UC President.

In addition to the criteria for the Student Member of the Senate position, the Student Member of the Board of Trustees must:

  1. Be a dedicated Christian.
  2. Freely subscribe to the Statement of Faith, believing without reservation the authority of the Scriptures.
  3. Agree with the objectives of Booth UC and show an active interest in its operations.
  4. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  5. Attend all meetings of the Booth UC Board of Trustees, either in person or virtually.

How to Apply

If you're interested in either of these positions, write a Personal Statement to the Dean of Students. The Personal Statement should include:

  • Name, year of study, degree program
  • Reason(s) why they are applying for the position
  • Contribution(s) they believe they can make in this position
  • Qualifications they bring to this position
