How to find Articles

(Journal (periodical, magazine) articles can be found by using our Research Databases. Click on Find Articles & E-resources from the left-hand menu on any page. Choose a database from the subject list or the alphabetical list. If you are not sure which database to search, click here to find the many ways you can consult library staff for help.

  1. Access a database by clicking on its title
  2. Note that the databases are geographically restricted according to the following

  3. Type keywords or subject headings describing your topic into the search box
    – Make sure you brainstorm synonyms for your keywords. Not all articles will use the same words you do.
    ie. searching for self-care for social workers: self-care, burnout, work-life balance could all be used to describe the same concept
  4. Consult the database help screens if you are unfamiliar with its features
  5. The search results will display “records” which minimally ocntain a citation but may also contain a summary of the article or even the full-text online.
  6. Print, email, or download the record or article by following the on-screen instructions
  7. If an article is not available online, you can request a scanned copy of the article to be sent to you.
    1. Click on the Inter-library loan link on the library’s homepage or from the “Request this item” link from within a database
    2. Fill in the form that appears with your name and contact information
    3. There may be a charge for the item. You will be notified of any costs involved before we order the item.  Students must pre-pay if any charges apply
    4. Articles delivered electronically via email
    5. Average turnaround time is 1-3 business days
    6. Limit of 5 requests per person, per day
