Staff and Faculty

The Academic Office at Booth University College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cynthia Sottie as Director of the School of Social Work, commencing immediately. Dr. Sottie has been teaching in higher education since 2000 and joined the faculty of Booth University College in 2016, where she is currently an Associate Professor of Social Work. Prior to joining Booth UC, she was the Director of the Department of Social Work at the University of Ghana.

Dr. Sottie holds an MSW from West Virginia University and a PhD from Queen's University in Belfast (UK). She continues to research and publish in the areas of stigmatized illness, policy on education access/outcomes and issues related to poverty and marginalization. International social work practice, immigrant and newcomer issues are central to Dr. Sottie's vocational call to impact humanity positively, give hope to those who have given up, and advocate for and help vulnerable populations. This vocation is vested primarily in teaching and imparting the same passions and vision to students at Booth UC. It is also manifested in numerous acts of service to the wider community, including the current responsibility as Board Member for the Centre for Democracy and Socio-economic Development - Africa (CDS).

We are fortunate to have Dr. Sottie as a colleague, resident scholar, mentor, and friend. Please join us in congratulating her as she takes on this new responsibility at Booth University College.
