Programs Offered
Studying at Booth UC
The School of Social Work at Booth University College is a well-respected program that prepares you for generalist practice. Our program gives students the knowledge and practical skills to work with diverse populations across many settings. Our small class sizes allow for more advanced learning opportunities. You'll learn to think critically, be a reflective practitioner, and be creative in dealing with social issues.
With the support of our Indigenous partners, you'll learn to act as an ally on social issues affecting Indigenous peoples in Canada. You'll also acquire knowledge and skills in Indigenous-informed interventions and healing.
Practicum Experience
When you graduate, you'll be prepared for practice in a variety of settings. Expect to gain at least 700 hours of practicum experience. Our emphasis on practical learning makes our graduates highly sought after. Many are offered employment from their practicum placements. We have a unique approach to practicum placement. Our faculty are liaisons for all placements. Our field education coordinator works with you to find experiences that align with your passions and career goals.
Education For a Better World
Booth UC promises to provide Education for a Better World, and our social work program is integral to that. Our program is grounded on the Canadian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. It also grows from the work of The Salvation Army in addressing social injustice. Our Christian learning environment fosters respect for diversity and all traditions. The program instills values of compassion, acceptance and self-awareness.
Accreditation
Graduates of the Social Work program have been able to work as registered social workers in Manitoba and beyond. We are an approved program of the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW) for registration in the province of Manitoba.
BSW graduates are eligible to take the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) licensing examination and register with the MCSW. Our success in preparing students for this exam has placed Booth University College in the top spot for pass rates in Canada.
“At Booth UC, everyone is there for each other. My fellow students, staff and faculty became like family. Now, as a sessional instructor in the Social Work program, I am able to give the support and knowledge I received back to others. That is an amazing thing!"
- Johnson Boateng (BSW/04)
