Alumni

In this edition of the Booth UC Alumni Spotlight, we are catching up with Matthew Gooch (BSW/14), a distinguished Bachelor of Social Work graduate.

Matthew's path to Booth UC was an unexpected one. "I had forgotten I had applied!" he confesses. However, a call from the Admissions Team alerted him to a part of his application that required completion. Through this interaction, Matthew experienced the personal touch that set Booth UC apart from other institutions. The university's commitment to individual attention, small class sizes, and comprehensive education deeply resonated with him.

Matthew currently resides in Brandon, Manitoba, where he works as a therapist with TinyEYE Therapy Services. He provides remote tele-therapy to students around the world, making a positive impact on young lives. Not only has Matthew pursued his own professional endeavours, but he has also returned to Booth UC as a sessional instructor, sharing his expertise and nurturing the next generation of social work professionals. His dedication to his clients and students is a testament to the profound influence of his studies at Booth UC.

Reflecting on his time as a student, Matthew cherishes the connections and relationships he forged with colleagues and professors. "The support and knowledge I gained from Booth UC and the professors have been invaluable," he reveals. Even beyond graduation, the ongoing support and "cheerleading" he received from Booth UC's faculty continue to shape his personal and professional growth.

When asked what advice he would give to prospective students considering Booth UC, Matthew's enthusiasm is infectious. "Fill out the application and send it off! You won't regret it!" He emphasizes that Booth University College's dedication to walking alongside students throughout their educational journey makes it unique. "Booth UC’s unwavering commitment to equipping students with practical knowledge and comprehensive expertise sets them up for success in their careers and personal lives."

Matthew Gooch's remarkable achievements as a therapist, instructor, and advocate for social work are testaments to Booth University College’s mission of Education for a Better World. To all those considering Booth UC, Matthew's resounding message is clear: "Embrace the opportunity to be part of a nurturing community that will empower you to bring hope, mercy and social justice to the world."
