Meet Emma LaBossiere, Scholarship Recipient

At Booth University College, we strive to make a high-quality education as affordable as possible through programs that recognize and reward students. We asked a few of our scholarship recipients, including Emma LaBoissiere, what this meant for them.

Why did you choose Booth UC?

I originally chose Booth UC because a close friend’s mother, who is a social worker, highly recommended the social work program. As I further investigated Booth UC, I was drawn to it because of the school atmosphere and smaller classes. I believe smaller, more intimate classes make it much easier to get to know your professors and fellow students and provide a higher-quality education. Booth UC was held in high regard by all the people I consulted with, which ultimately led to my decision to apply. And I couldn’t be happier about my decision!

How does the scholarship you received impact your life and/or your studies?

The scholarship I received greatly impacts my life as I am paying my own way through school. I needed to take out student loans to pay for my schooling, so this scholarship helped reduce my debt. It allows me to create a healthy balance between work and school, resulting in more time to focus on my studies. That makes a huge difference in my life. I am extremely grateful and honoured to be chosen as the recipient of this award.

How do you plan on using your "Education for a Better World"?

I plan to use my Education for a Better World to pursue my dream of becoming a social worker and furthering my career working with youth with autism and youth in addictions. I have been working in both fields for many years and am extremely passionate and invested in my youth, who inspire me every day. I was touched many years ago by a little boy with autism which led me down the path of becoming an autism tutor and my own struggles in life is what has led me down the path of helping young women achieve sobriety. My goal is to be an advocate for marginalized youth and create a safe, inclusive environment which promotes growth and healing for children and youth of all backgrounds.
